Acclimatizing at Izta

We will begin our journey with a 3 hour drive to Iztaccíhuatl,  considered one of the best travel destinations in Mexico by climbing enthusiasts and visitors in general. Upon arrival at the mountain hut, we will do a two hour acclimatizing hike to 14,800 feet up the slopes of Iztaccíhuatl, accompanied always by our adventure guide. Afterwards we will descend back down to the Altzomoni climbers lodge at 13,000 feet, where we will rest and continue our acclimatization process. We will not use the high camp at Iztaccíhuatl, as sleeping is more comfortable at the lower lodge, and we don’t want to tire our legs by hauling gear to the high camp.

Summit day "Ayoloco glaciar" 12 hours

We will hike Iztaccíhuatl via the the knees route, with spectacular views of the active volcano Popocatépetl (with some luck, we might actually see some lava), until we reach the summit, which will take us arround 6 to 7 hours. After the climb you will have free time to eat at the local traditional restaurants before we depart to Mexico City.
